Julien Mercille博士是都柏林大学院讲师。他的研究主要关注经济和金融危机，尤其是相关的媒体报道。此外，他对美国的对外政策和政治事务也有着浓厚的兴趣。
Dr. Julien Mercille received his Ph.D from UCLA (Los Angeles, USA) in geography. He previously received an MA from the University of Kentucky (USA) in geography and a BA from McGill University (Montreal, Canada) in International Development Studies and Political Science. He joined UCS in September 2007. His research focuses on the ongoing economic and financial crisis, and in particular on the media coverage of it. He also has a longstanding interest in US foreign policy and political affairs. He has published extensively on those subjects in peer-reviewed journals as well as in the media and appears on television and radio regularly as an expert on those subjects. His latest book is Cruel Harvest: US Intervention in the Afghan Drug Trade (London: Pluto Press).

Introduction：
本次讲座是对欧洲经济危机起源和特性的回顾。我们将联系美国经济危机，并将其放在历史的背景下进行讨论，尤其关注西方近几十年来向新自由主义转变的意义。
The lecture is overview of the origins and nature of the European economic crisis. Links with the US economic crisis will be made and the crises will be put in historical context. The significance of the shift toward neoliberalism in the past few decades in the West will be highlighted.
